1. VIVEK OBEROI – HUM TUM
Perhaps it was the instant fame that went to his head because of which Vivek Oberoi thought he was worth a lot more for the role. He walked out, making way for Saif Ali Khan who went on to receive numerous awards for his role in this movie.
2. KAREENA KAPOOR – KAL HO NA HO
We’re still not sure what made this Kapoor girl say no to the movie, but this could easily be identified as one of the biggest mistakes of her professional career. The movie catapulted Priety Zinta right into the A-Lister list and even won her many awards. In one of the Koffee with Karan episodes, Preity even commented on the whole situation comparing it to a person trying a pair of jeans and not picking them up followed by a second person coming in and purchasing the jeans.
3. JUHI CHAWLA – DIL TOH PAGAL HAI
Juhi refused Karisma Kapoor’s role for the film as she did not want to play second fiddle to Madhuri Dixit. She has even admitted that after Darr, she was too used to being the YRF heroine that she didn’t really want to share the attention with anyone else and the success had gone to her head.
4. TWINKLE KHANNA – KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI
Twinkle said no to Tina’s role in the film because it was simply too small! The film ended up becoming a mega hit and even did wonders for Rani Mukherjee who ended up playing the role of Tina.
5. KAJOL – 3 IDIOTS
Kajol just didn’t find Kareena’s role powerful enough. In fact, when she was approached for the role, she made it very clear that she wanted to be a co-lead actor, if not the lead actor. The movie went on to break all sorts of records, but Kajol, we hear, has no regrets.
6. AAMIR KHAN – DARR
In the 90s, a mainstream actor playing a negative role was a big deal and this is was one of the reasons why Aamir turned down the role that was eventually portrayed by Shah Rukh Khan. The perfectionist actor not only thought that the role wouldn’t go too well with his image, but also had apprehensions sharing screen space with Sunny Deol.
7. SHAH RUKH KHAN – MUNNA BHAI MBBS
That’s right! Sanjay Dutt was not the first choice for the role, but the movie did eventually come in his kitty, giving his career a completely new lease of life!
8. SALMAN KHAN – BAAZIGAR
Yes! The movie, an iconic one in Shah Rukh Khan’s career was initially offered to Salman Khan!
9. ABHISHEK BACHCHAN – DIL CHAHTA HAI
The Junior B was originally offered the role of Sid, eventually played by Akshaye Khanna. Given the fact that Abhishek’s career took some time to pick up, saying no to this movie was perhaps not such a good idea!
10. SAIF ALI KHAN – DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE
Can you imagine??? Saif Ali Khan as the beloved Raj? With no disrespect to the actor, we just cannot see anyone else as Raj except SRK of course!
11. KAREENA KAPOOR – KAHO NA PYAR HAI
This was suppose to be Kareena’s launch movie and she had even shot a few scenes for it. But the actress ended up walking out of the movie because she thought all the attention was on the director Rakesh Roshan’s son – Hrithik Roshan. Ameesha was called in to fill in the shoes and the movie made her an instant celebrity. Too bad the girl couldn’t keep it up.
