10 Worst Fashion trends in bollywood

“Some trends flatter. Others signal the end of days!”

We surfed through the recent history of fashion trends in Bollywood and couldn’t help ourselves from putting together these worst fashion trends that have died for good. Take a look!

THE TERE NAAM HAIRSTYLE

Post the release of Tere Naam in 2003 everywhere we looked there was an oil slick ready to consume us into a gaping pit of fashion hell. We don’t even have to bother explaining why this trend was the worst fashion trend that Salman Khan could give to his fans. Clearly having to even look at this picture is a plain act of torture.

THE HEAVILY PRINTED SHIRT

Can someone please tell us what was India’s most successful fashion designer, Manish Malhotra, thinking when he came up with this astounding idea of heavily printed and brightly coloured shirts? We guess he went a bit too far in trying to make Shah Rukh look like a teenager.

THE HEAD TO TOE MATCHING LOOK (FEMALE)

This trend dates back to the early 90s and was successfully brought back by Rani Mukherjee after which the city streets remained flooded with ladies marching about in clothes and accessories and yes hairbands that were entirely of the same colour. We couldn’t be happier on seeing this trend finally phase out.

THE BRIGHT COLOURED PATIALA SALWARS & COLLARED KURTI

Patiala with red, yellow, pink and blue stripes along with a dazzling yellow colored kurti with pink sleeve edges and a heavily worked red jhola – a look that had the potential to give even a healthy person a heart attack. Aki Narula ( Bunty and Babli fashion dsigner) we are definitely not looking forward to more clothes designed by you at least for the time being.

ROWDY RATHORE’S ABSOLUTELY MATCHING CLOTHES LOOK

Different coloured striped shirts over white t-shirts and denim ! In her attempt to create a ‘fun look’ for both the actors, Niharika Khan- Rowdy Rathore’s fashion designer, landed up giving the roadside Romeos a new look and the people of India sore eyes.

THE ‘NOT SO COOL’ NECKPIECE WEARING PRACTICE

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai started several trends, the ‘friendship band’ being  the most well-known one and the ‘cool’ silver neckpiece being the worst. This trend surely died for good!

THE TIGHT FITTING LEATHER PANTS

Why can’t the film industry and Indian men understand that they are not superheroes! Body-fitting leather pants were and still are meant for superheroes. We pity the rest who are inclined upon becoming a sorry site.

THE POLKA DOTTED PUFFED SLEEVES

We have seen Vidya Balan sporting such a look a number of times to do justice to her role but seriously there was a time when people actually wore these polka dotted tops with puffed sleeves. We are glad the trend died with age.

THE BLACK RIMMED ‘SECRETARY’ GLASSES

How could we forget these? Back in the early 2000s if someone wanted to look smart and professional but didn’t have eyesight issues then they need not worry. They could just go to the nearest optical store and buy themselves a pair of black framed ‘secretary’ glasses! Perfect …. back then!

EYE SIZE GLARES

Kajol-in-Kuch-Kuch-Hota-Hai

A style statement in the late 90s, they are an absolute ‘no-no’ now. Another trend that could leave the youngsters in splits today!
