9 most haunted places in India that’ll rob your sleep

No matter how much they disturb you there is something about the ghost stories that draw you towards them. So here is a list of 9 most haunted places that have been notorious for strange paranormal activities. Each of them has a history or some sort of strange legend. People have reported various unexplained experiences. We are sure that these places and legends are enough to leave you sleepless for many nights.

GP Block, Meerut:

This compound with three buildings inside it has many stories to support the paranormal activities here. Passersby have often claimed to see a group of four men consuming alcohol in the candlelight near the building. Locals have also reported several sightings of a woman in red dress walking through the walls of the block. The buildings are abandoned and have been left to decay. No one seems to know as to why the block was deserted. According to another story one of the houses is said to be a haven for the souls of several young girls and boys. Although we can’t certify the legitimacy of the stories, people stay clear of the property for their own good.

Dow Hill, Kuresong West Bengal:

This quiet hill station near Darjeeling is said to be flanked by haunted deep forests. These morbid dark woods have witnessed many strange activities, murders and suicides have been reported in and around. According to local legends something in these forests attracted and incited the victims to end their lives. Inhabitants have often claimed to see a woman clad in grey running at an inhuman speed around the area. Many people have said to hear weeping sounds of women and noises of children from the forest. Beside this they have often heard someone is shouting and abusing them from within the darkness. According to the woodcutters who wandered into the forest for fuel claimed to see a headless boy walking on the road before disappearing into the jungle. The fact that many people have committed suicide in the same forests for unknown reason leaves this place plagued by an uncomfortable eerie atmosphere. Also known as suicide forest, Dow hills is considered to be one of the most haunted places in the world.

Kuldhara, Rajasthan:

The haunted village of Kuldhara is said to carry a curse of itsinhabitants who vanished overnight after living there for 700 years. The village was once a flourishing place that was established by Pali Brahmins in 1291 but in 1825 all the 1500 inhabitants of kuldhara along with 83 nearby villages suddenly disappeared into the dark. No one ever saw them leave. According to legends the land carries a curse bringing death to anyone who will try to inhabit the place.  Since then many strange sightings have been reported in the area. No one has ever dared to stay there. Even locals keep away from the ruins especially after the dark. According to people apparitions have been seen lingering around the abandoned village. Tourists visiting the area have returned to find strange hand prints on their vehicles. A team of paranormal investigators that inspected this cursed village of death have reported sighting strange shadows. They also recorded some haunting voices. One of them felt someone tapping his shoulder even when no one was around.

Dumas Beach, Surat, Gujrat:

Black sand and sea waters only add more to this haunted beach. According to the locals this place was once used as a cremation ground and has since been a place that’s haunted by sinister and evil spirits. It’s said that many tourists who chose to stroll the black sand vanished and never returned back. One can hear eerie sound and whispers drifting in the morbid winds. People have often heard voices that warned them from going further asking them to return back. The urban legends claim that the unfulfilled spirits of dead people just refuse to leave this place. If stories are anything to go by visitors have heard the sound of a woman wailing, weeping and laughing. What makes it scarier is that it seems to be emanating from the dark waters. The locals avoid this beach especially after the sun sets. Some of them who dared to explore after the safe hours have experienced the air getting heavy and depressing.

Delh Cantt, New Delhi:

This particular road in Delhi has its own share of spine chilling tale. According to reports a lady clad in white can be seen trying to get lift from passerby. It’s said that if the driver doesn’t stop to give her a lift she starts running with the car at the same speed, sometimes overtaking it before disappearing suddenly. Some of them who reported these sighting have claimed that she even knocked on the door as she ran along the car. In a case or two she ran after the car, latched herself to the bonnet and stayed there till the stretch came to an end. Maybe it’s because of these incidents the cab drivers have been asked never to stop their vehicle on this particular road let alone offering someone a lift.

Bhangarh, Rajasthan:

There is something about this fort that makes you feel its presence felt even in broad day light. According to local legends this fort is infested with black magic. It’s said that once upon a time a tantric had cursed the inhabitants of the palace that they all would die unnatural death. The curse trapped their spirits which are known to stay within the fort till the date. It’s clearly considered to be one of the most haunted places around the world. Even the ASI board that forbids people to enter the premise before sunrise and after sunset has been placed at a safe distance. According to the locals none of the attempts to build a house have been successful. For some mysterious reasons the roofs of the structures keep collapsing. They also claim that who so ever tried to stay there after dark never returned back. There have been several sightings of mysterious shadows. On other occasions passersby have heard sounds of music and anklets coming from the fort. People who have visited this place out of interest have reported feeling restless as a morbidly depressing air tries to press them down. Some of them have also claimed of constantly being followed or watched.

Malcha mahal

This place was given to Begum of Awadh after she failed to claim back her royal properties spread across the country. The Begum who lived here with her children Princess Sakina and Prince Riaz is said to have committed suicide after this haunted palace took toll on her. Her body lay down on the study desk for 10 days as Sakina and Riaz mourned her death. The siblings also slept with the dead body before finally burying it. Since then both of them have been staying in this eerie property without any contact from the outside world. The mahal is located deep inside the forest. Even the forest guard stays away from this former hunting lodge after dark. People who dared to explore the property have claimed to experience negative vibes enough to make them very uncomfortable. Although we can’t really say if its spooky the stories surrounding it makes it formidable enough.

Lambi Dehar mines,  Mussorie

For long the mountains have cradled legends of ghosts and spirits but the stories related to this deserted mine are enough to haunt you for many days. These mines were said to be shut down after a series of unexplained and unnatural accidents caused death of miners. According to one the many legends an army officer was murdered here by his wife and her lover. They crushed him under a boulder. The dead officer returns every night to recreate his death scene. Locals say that they have often heard him screaming in pain calling out for his wife. He is said to still looking for his murderers. Another urban legend says that long time ago something inside the mine caused the death of all the miners. Since then their tortured spirits have been trapped inside the tunnels. They claim to have heard the chilling screams of dead miners. Sometimes the voices come from the local deserted hospital where these people died slow painful death. In yet another story the tunnels is abode of a witch who screams and howls in the dead of the night. Many truck drivers have said to hear these strange voices that stop once you go near. According to locals she has lured men into the mines who never returned back.

Agrasen ki Baoli, Delhi:

Well this one tells you that spirits can haunt even the busiest of places. The baoli was built by Maharaja Agrasen in 14th century. The structure is dry but according to legends it was once filled with sinister black water that called people towards it. Locals claim that the water had powers that hypnotized people and made them jump into it to sacrifice their life.
